Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home residents make some new friends

Our Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home residents and team stepped into the unknown recently when we hosted a Wild Science experience!

We’re used to fluffy cats and barking dogs here, but stepped outside of our comfort zones to meet a few different animals. We were introduced to a snake, a frog, a hamster, a centipede, African snail and a gecko! It was a very interesting experience, everyone was brave and gave it a good go, with most of us holding some sort of creature!

This activity was interesting because it was sensory-based with the animals having different textures. The frog was an interesting texture, the snail’s shell had course wrinkles and the snake was scaly. It was enjoyable to feel different textures and see the gorgeous patterns on the animals. The gecko in particular had a vibrant pattern which stood out.

It was surprising how many people didn’t mind holding the animals. Lots of people faced their fears that day at the Lodge!
