Last Tuesday at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home we had a special delivery – duck eggs! Every year we hatch baby chicks but we decided to hatch ducklings this year for a change.
The first one hatched very soon on Tuesday night, named ‘Quackles’. By Thursday morning, Sonya Lodge had five ducklings, which was so exciting! Our residents are so good with them and the ducklings have been soaking up lots of love and cuddles over the past few days.
On Easter Monday it was time for the ducklings’ first aqua adventure. We bought them their own paddling pool and put some warm water in it for them and they loved it. They were running around, playing with each other and didn’t want to get out (typical kids!).
These wonderful ducklings have brought back warm memories for some of our residents and some had their own ducks growing up. Every day we reminisce about something new.
We have five days left with the little duckies until they go back to the farm. What fun we’re having!
