Christmas Eve at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

With only one day left on our advent calendar at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home until the big day, that meant that it was Christmas Eve. It was an indulgent, foodie day for our residents, starting with a tasty breakfast selection of cereals, a full English or fresh pastries.

Throughout the day we opened presents in our grotto; we had an abundance of gifts from our residents’ families, the Home’s gifts and Dunelm’s gift giving scheme. Our ladies and gentlemen also enjoyed a snack of warm mince pies and mulled wine in the mid-morning.

We had Christmas music on the whole day to keep our festive energy up! As soon it was lunch time, resident’s sat at beautiful tables adorned with red table cloths, festive crackers and swan shaped napkins. To start, it was smoked salmon with prawns and buttered brown bread; the main meal was a steak pie with creamy mash or salmon fish cakes with parsley sauce.

There were lots of different sweet treats available during the course of the day, and in the afternoon, more grotto visits! Tea was soon here and it was a beef wellington for our residents for Christmas eve with various different snacks and beverages.

It was a lovely day filled with festive cheer all in preparation for the big day!
