We discovered last week that our Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home resident Roy is a master of the game Shove Ha’Penny!
Roy’s daughter visited him and brought in the original Shove Ha’Penny board, chalk and coins that the family have always played with. She shared with us that they both would play this game regularly and it became very competitive!
Roy became fully focused and engaged as they started a game together; it was beautiful and heart-warming to watch as Roy reminisced and remembered the game (and even how to cheat!!).
Roy and his daughter also taught our Activities Team how to play so that we can now regularly challenge Roy to a game!
