On Friday 2 June we celebrated ‘Festa della Repubblica Italiana’ at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home – the Italian National Day.
One of our residents called Nina is Italian, so it was very important for us to mark and celebrate this day together. Our Chef ensured that we had a special Italian menu for lunch with Spaghetti Bolognese and Tiramisu for dessert. Nina was over the moon to see Tiramisu on the dessert trolley as this is her absolute favourite!
In the afternoon our residents were treated to an Italian food tasting session when they tried some Arancini rice balls that were filled with cheese, provolone cheese, mini flavoured bruschetta and fresh pesto.
After trying all these delicious savoury tasters it was time for the sweet treats! Everyone enjoyed Amaretti soft almond cakes and ‘Rolletti alla Nocciola‘ – delicious sponge cakes with a hazelnut filling. They were divine!
We ended our day with a sing-a-long and dance to some of Nina’s favourite Italian songs.
What a fantastic day, and one we will be looking forward to celebrating again next year!
