Coronation weekend at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

We have all been very excited to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home.

We decorated our Home with banners, flags, bunting and balloons to mark the special occasion.

On coronation day (Saturday 6 May) our residents and staff dressed in regal and patriotic costumes and accessories and sat down together to watch the coronation on the television. Many of our residents love the royal family and enjoyed watching the pomp and circumstance of the event. This sparked many conversations and reminiscing opportunities about previous royal celebrations.

On Sunday our residents enjoyed a relaxing day with coronation-themed arts and crafts activities. They also had a lovely lunch with a choice of a traditional roast dinner or a homemade coronation quiche that were both made by our talented Chef Sharon.

Monday was our ‘party day‘, supported by Dartford Borough Council. Our residents started the festivities with a glorious and delicious BBQ that was cooked by our Chef Steve. Once everyone had filled their bellies, our guests arrived for the party. We were joined by lots of our residents’ families and friends and also welcomed our friends from the local church, and our local councillor. The party got started with the beautiful sounds of our singer Maxine. She got everyone up and dancing and it was wonderful to see everyone smiling and laughing together while showing off their best dance moves!

After all of that dancing, everyone had worked up an appetite. It was time to bring out a huge selection of cream cakes, tarts and doughnuts. They were absolutely scrumptious and just what we all needed after all that activity!

We all had a fantastic weekend and it was a wonderful way to celebrate such a momentous occasion.
