Our wonderful Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home Deputy Manager Abby is off on maternity leave soon, so of course we had to throw her a baby shower!
Our Activities Team and residents made gorgeous homemade items including a sign that read ‘Abby’s Baby Shower‘ and a card which all our residents signed. We also put together a ‘tree of advice‘ which entailed thoughtful words of wisdom for ‘mummy to be’ from our well-experienced residents.
The day started early for Brian our maintenance man, Victoria from our Activities Team and a few of our residents who are early risers, who decorated our Home with pretty pink bunting and all the crafts we had been working on over the past few weeks. After this it was time to surprise Abby who had no clue about what we’d planned!
She wandered around our Home soaking up all the hard work that our residents had put in and at mid-morning she was given her baby shower presents from us all, accompanied by a spectacular bouquet of flowers.
We had a few visitors throughout the day including other staff members and some of Abby’s family members – her mother Dionne, grandmother Brenda and her sister Senior Carer, Amelia, meaning we had four generations at Sonya Lodge!
After all of this excitement we enjoyed a big buffet with an abundance of treats. Sandwiches, cheeses, breads, pastries, crisps, cheese and pineapple, crackers and much more. Our residents enjoyed slices of pink iced cake and cupcakes too!
We danced into the afternoon to lots of music and then we played some games including ‘Pin the dummy on the baby‘ with our lovely Angela coming first place and winning a packet of shortbread. Our next game was ‘Guess the baby’s weight‘ and Pauline had the highest guess of 12lb! We will have to crown our winner when the baby arrives!
To end our fun-filled day we all had a good old Sonya Lodge singalong!
The whole day was stunning and could not have gone any more perfectly for Abby and our residents. A special thank you to our Business Support Officer Amanda who greatly assisted with the planning and creation of the stunning decorations for the party.
We wish our wonderful Abby the best of luck and we can’t wait to see her back with the baby!
