Feeling the Valentines love at Sonya Lodge Care Home

Valentine’s Flower Arranging

Flower arranging is a favourite activity of many of our residents at Sonya Lodge Care Home.

When Valentine’s Day was approaching, our green-fingered residents were happy to help with the preparations by arranging an array of different coloured roses into vases. These vases were then placed all around our Home and dining area.

The flowers not only looked beautiful but filled the Lodge with the delightful smell of fresh roses, which is a favourite smell of several of our residents.

Celebrating Valentine’s Day

The day of love arrived at Sonya Lodge and this gave us another opportunity to spoil our residents!

We decorated from top to bottom with hearts and roses for the special occasion and everyone enjoyed receiving cards and messages expressing love. Our residents also enjoyed posing for some beautiful pictures with roses in their hair.

For lunch, we transformed our dining area into a romantic restaurant for our residents, with roses on every table. Our Chef then prepared a special three course Valentine’s meal that was absolutely scrumptious.

Each resident received a delicious Valentine’s biscuit with their tea and coffee to round off the day, kindly made by Victoria from our Activities Team.

Valentine’s Party

We extended our Valentine’s Day celebrations as our residents wanted to make the most of the lovely holiday – so on Thursday 16 February we arranged a wonderful Valentine’s party for our residents and their families.

We were joined by the amazing Maxine who sang her heart out to us all and got everyone up on the dance floor.

After working up an appetite, we then enjoyed a buffet together of our favourite party food, heart-shaped sandwiches, cakes and chocolates.

Everyone had a fantastic time and as always we can’t wait for the next party to get our dancing shoes on again!

Reunited for Valentine’s Day

We welcomed two new residents recently; Angela and George had both retired to Norfolk together, but due to unforeseen circumstances, they were unfortunately separated into two different care facilities that were 40 miles apart.

Having always been together, this was a heartbreaking situation for them and their family, so we were keen to help out. We worked closely with the family and other Care Homes to arrange for them to be reunited together after a month apart.

Everyone pulled together and the beautiful married couple were able to be together again just in time for Valentine’s Day. This was such a special moments that melted all of our hearts.

They are a wonderful duo, who love to spend time together and often have our staff rolling with laughter – whether it’s George being a flirt, or Angela laughing and rolling her eyes at his cheekiness! This partnership is a magical one and we are honoured to welcome them to the Sonya Lodge family.
