Exploring art, food and nature together at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

At Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, we love offering a wide variety of activities for our residents to enjoy. Everyone has different interests, so having plenty of choice means there’s always something new to try and discover – and last week was full of creativity and exploration!

We started with an arts morning, where our residents got creative by colouring beautiful animal designs. Using coloured chalks, pencils and felt-tip pens, they produced vibrant pictures of their favourite creatures. It was lovely to see everyone so focused and proud of their colourful masterpieces.

Meanwhile, in our Cooking Club, residents Angela and Frank were inspired by a food and drink quiz to try something new – a traditional dish called Anglesey Eggs. After doing a little research, they decided to make it themselves! They peeled and prepared the eggs, chopped the vegetables, and made a sauce before it was baked in the oven. The result was a delicious, warming meal served with a fresh salad – a real culinary success!

To complete the week, our ladies and gents enjoyed exploring our autumnal sensory tray, which was filled with natural treasures such as pinecones, acorns, conkers, colourful leaves and fragrant plants. This hands-on experience encouraged everyone to use their senses – touching the textures, smelling the scents and reminiscing about autumn days gone by. As we shared stories about collecting leaves, playing conkers with friends, and even growing pumpkins, it reminded us all how small moments can spark the most wonderful memories.
