Celebrating Greek Easter
We love celebrating other cultures at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, so we were very pleased to be marking Greek Easter together (although it was belated!).
We filled our Home with the sounds of traditional Greek music and had Greek flags on display. Our residents enjoyed a Greek food tasting activity with rose milkshake, sesame bread, feta pie, spanikopita (spinach and feta pie), tzatziki, houmous, taramasalata, feta cheese, olives, Greek inspired flavoured crisps, Greek delight sweets and traditional Greek biscuits. What a feast!
Everyone took great pleasure in tasting these different foods, and laughing and dancing together to the music. It was a fantastic day and wonderful to celebrate and experience a small taste of Greek culture.
Relaxation and sensory time
Many of our residents love some one-to-one time with our Activities Team members to enjoy a relaxing hand massage or some time exploring our sensory boxes.
Both activities provide many of our residents with an important opportunity to receive sensory feedback through touch. The sensory boxes contain items of varying textures that encourage investigation and fiddling through touch that can be very soothing.
It was lovely to see our residents thoroughly engaging and enjoying these activities with smiles on their faces, and lots of meaningful social interaction and lovely conversations.
