In our efforts to fundraise in September for Dementia Awareness Month and the MacMillan Coffee Morning at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home we hosted our very own Bake Off on Thursday 23 September.
We had 11 amazing entries in total including a rainbow cake, lemon cakes, a giant cheese scone and cupcakes which all looked delicious.
Judging was conducted by our Home Manager Ami Barrington-Hunt, our Chef Stephen Bossa and Nellsar’s Recreation and Well-Being Manager, Viv Stead – the judging panel had no idea who had made what.
After a mammoth tasting session by the judges, the final scores were added together and the winner of this year’s Sonya Lodge Bake Off was announced as Business Support Officer Amanda Jones – our Star Baker!
Amanda was followed closely by team member Victoria as runner up, with our resident Kathleen in third place. Well done to them all!
Certificates, bubbles and wooden spoons were awarded as prizes.
The delicious winning entries were;
- 1st place – Amanda’s luscious lemon cake (number 3)
- 2nd place – Victoria’s beautiful Biscoff cupcakes (number 4)
- 3rd place – Kathleen’s fantastic fruity Victoria sponge cake (number 6)
Our fund raising total stands at £370 to date, but we are still collecting, so watch this space!
