Poppies, memories and music at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

Reminiscing and celebrating the Forces on Remembrance Day

At Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, we were proud to come together to commemorate Remembrance Day, taking time to reflect, share memories and honour those who served. Some of our residents attended the traditional Remembrance Service at our local church, proudly wearing their poppies and joining in the heartfelt prayers and hymns. It was a touching experience that filled everyone with gratitude and pride.

Back at the Home, we welcomed some of our young friends for a special poppy-themed art session, where children used potato printing to create bright red poppy pictures. It was fantastic to see our residents giggling at the messy fun and being so proud of the children’s pictures

We also enjoyed several reminiscence sessions, where our ladies and gents shared stories from their childhoods during the war years, as well as memories of loved ones who had served. These conversations were a wonderful reminder of the importance of keeping history and personal experiences alive.

To round off our Remembrance activities, we were delighted to welcome the talented Caz, who gave a beautiful performance of wartime favourites and some of our residents’ most-loved classic songs. It was a day filled with emotion – a truly fitting tribute to those we will never forget.
