Marking Remembrance Day and reminiscing together at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

Remembrance Day is very important to us at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home and a special time for our residents. Everyone was very keen to mark this special occasion.

Some of our residents got to work ahead of the day by knitting some poppies for staff and residents. Their hard work really paid off and they made some beautiful poppies for us.

On Friday 11 November some of our ladies and gents marked the minute silence and spent some time looking at and talking about our Remembrance Display. This sparked many conversations which then led on to some reminiscence sessions with various objects and reading materials.

On Remembrance Sunday, a group of our residents attended the service at our local church, St Michaels. Other residents chose to watch the services and processions on the television; they were very keen to watch this, especially as it was the first Remembrance Sunday with our new King.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a singalong with wartime songs and some dancing.

It was a very special weekend and a pleasure to mark the occasion together and honour all of those heroes.
