Joint fun activities at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home

Enjoying a selection of fun activities together

To cater for all of our residents wants and needs here at Sonya Lodge Residential Care Home, we always endeavour to provide a wide range of activities. As we know, every person is different, as are their activity preferences and passions. We also know that variety is definitely the spice of life! These are some of the activities our residents have enjoyed this week.

Some residents worked hard to solve some puzzles. This activity not only brings enjoyment but also encourages residents to use their problem solving skills based on visual perception rather than recall.

Our residents also enjoyed some colouring activities. This activity is very calming and therapeutic for many residents. While practicing their fine motor skills they also express themselves creatively. It is also wonderful to see the sense of pride and accomplishment they have when they complete their picture.

We also enjoyed a chocolate cake decorating session to celebrate National Chocolate Cake Day. So many of our residents are talented cake makers and decorators. This activity enabled them to share their culinary talents (which we all enjoyed) while reminiscing together about special cakes they have made and decorated in the past.

Some residents enjoyed some flower arranging. This is a fantastic activity that is sensory based. The beautiful smells, colours, and textures of the flowers invoke memories and emotions that our residents share with one another. This activity also provide residents with the opportunity to express themselves creatively by producing some stunning flower arrangements that we are only too happy to display around Sonya Lodge.

Our final activities that are always worth a mention are our impromptu dance and music sessions. Music is a powerful tool and good for the soul. Our residents love listening to their favourite songs throughout the day, and this often results in singing and dancing together. We all love these moments and they mean so much to our residents.
